Dabbling Estate Agents -
Are sadly adopting the principles of
'Weathercock Management'

When the wind changes direction, the weathercock will change direction and ‘weathercock management’ appears to be the order of the day for many leading High Street Estate agents, as they endeavour to switch from sales to lettings in response to the current credit crisis.
You wouldn’t call an Electrician to fix a leaking tap?
The commercial infrastructure for sales and lettings is as different as Electricians and Plumbers and unsuspecting landlord’s needs to take caution with ‘new venture ideas that will change again when the ‘commercial wind’ changes direction’.
Rupert Stadler, Audi CEO provides a statement for thought:
“If you think you have to change your strategy now,
that means you did not have a good one before”
Michael Warke, Director of Goodchilds Estate Agents & Lettings makes the following comment:
“Having a strategic intent to be involved with any aspect of commercial business is fine, but applying knee jerk responses to business change is a recipe for commercial disaster”.
“Goodchilds have very clear plans and separate functions for both sales and lettings and we would suggest that landlords do their homework before engaging the services of the 'dabbling weathercocks'”
“Reduced fee’s and over-valuing of property will create commercial loss for landlords and damage further the already tainted reputation of our industry”
“My advice – there are many excellent sales and letting agents but landlords will need to do their homework. Fancy gimmicks and shallow commitment will leave you out of pocket – be careful and choose an agent with a track record”.
